1.1. Introduction

The subject Treating Language and Hearing Disorders introduces students to learn the relevant contents on linguistic content in general, and to evaluating and intervening in the most frequent disorders noted in schoolchildren. This subject contributes to a profile that complements their basic training in language and hearing disorders, and also to special education needs, and provides fundamental knowledge in the intervention area where the future primary school teacher may work professionally.

2.1. Learning goals

1 Know the role played by a primary school teacher in the field of language disorders

2 Know the general aspects of learning and hearing disorders

3 Know and evaluate in order to implement the required intervention programmes

4 Be able to guide teachers in preparing and using resources, activities and strategies that enable treatments with these disorders

5 Be able to guide parents and legal guardians to be able to develop communication skills with children with such difficulties 

5.3. Syllabus

Theme 1: Introduction: Conceptual delimitation. Definition. Classification. Acquisition and development of normal and pathological language

Theme 2: Evaluating language disorders

Theme 3: Treating language disorders

Theme 4: Studying hearing disorders. General classification. Diagnosis evaluation of deafness. Hearing disorders. Identifying hearing loss. Introducing audiometry. Developing language and communication. Perceiving and producing speech in people with hearing impairments

Theme 5: Methodological approaches in treating and educating children with hearing impairments

Theme 6: School and learning with children who have hearing impairments
